Job Description:
SummaryPosted: Role Number:200574555At Apple, extraordinary
ideas have a way of quickly becoming extraordinary products,
services, and customer experiences. Sound is an essential and
compelling facet of the customer experience. Apple has assembled an
elite Acoustics team that enables our customers to experience music
with delight, communicate with clarity, and enjoy elegant sound
throughout our product line. In Apple Acoustics we work with the
utmost attention to detail, directly impacting the design of
products that millions of people around the world love!Apple's
Transducer Design team in the Acoustics org delivers the sound you
hear in Apple products by creating speaker designs and developing
groundbreaking technologies to improve audio performance and
quality. We partner with acoustic engineers, multi-functional
teams, and direct contract manufacturers to design and build
Apple's next generation of speaker modules. We are looking for a
Product Design Engineer with stellar mechanical engineering skills
and detailed manufacturing knowledge to help take our products to
the next level. Could this be you?DescriptionAs a Product Design
Engineer on the Acoustics Transducer Design team you will design
and validate custom speaker modules for Apple's highly
space-constrained products. You will lead the mechanical design of
speaker module assembly and their components. You will partner with
Transducer Design Engineers (who optimize the acoustic and magnetic
performance of the module) and system Product Design Engineers (who
integrate the module into a system). Working together you will
balance the tradeoffs between acoustic performance, mechanical
design, manufacturing, and reliability. This role requires creative
design work to generate 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules
from scratch for all components, including: plastic enclosures,
metal stampings, insert molded electrical connections, over-molded
seals, magnet system subassemblies, and more. The designs will be
reviewed by suppliers and multi-functional teams, requiring timely
modifications to address design issues without impacting project
schedule. You are expected to handle multiple projects at the same
time while working with multiple suppliers.Additionally, you will
contribute to improvements in the acoustic performance and
reliability of the speaker modules by pursuing innovative ideas
that bring the module to the limit of what's possible. This means
developing new design approaches, exploring different assembly
methods, introducing new materials, and implementing new
manufacturing processes. After parts are released for manufacturing,
you will ensure speaker components and modules can be manufactured
in high volumes without issues, while meeting performance
specifications. This involves iterating on the design, developing
test plans, generating reliability specifications, performing
failure analysis, and conducting experiments (DOEs) to find design
solutions and implement corrective actions.Minimum
