Opera Colorado's 2024 production of The Flying Dutchman.OPPORTUNITYOpera Colorado invites talented leaders possessing drive, ambition, energy, and a deep love of opera to present themselves as candidates for General Director. Opera Colorado's General Director serves as a visionary leader overseeing all aspects of its operation with a particular emphasis on securing the financial resources necessary for the company to produce world-class productions and special performances of standard repertoire and new work from the world of opera. The new General Director will excel at building relationships, particularly with donors and patrons, and identify ways that individuals can contribute to the company's success through transformational philanthropy. In close collaboration with Opera Colorado's Board and Staff, the General Director is responsible for shaping a vibrant and innovative approach to producing opera that captivates traditional and new audiences. The General Director will be a bold and dynamic ambassador for Opera Colorado as well as a cultural leader for the region and beyond.POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe General Director will report directly to Opera Colorado's Board of Directors as the organizational leader, managing and overseeing the full range of operations including programming, fundraising, finance, marketing, and community engagement/education. Priorities of leadership for the General Director include:

• Strategic Leadership and Inspiring ManagementThrough thoughtfulness and collaboration, the General Director will engage the Board and Staff on a plan to broaden Opera Colorado's impact in the community and beyond. With tremendous passion, verve, and ingenuity, the General Director will marshall the team to set and outperform aspirational goals. Establishing a culture of accountability, trust, and joyful ambition will allow the General Director to lead the company to even greater heights of success.
• Activating a Significant Culture of PhilanthropyAs an inspiring storyteller and relationship builder, the General Director will be a highly motivated fundraiser and will tirelessly seek out new philanthropic dollars and lead the effort to empower the Board and Staff to be a progressive, organized, and effective fundraising team.
• Ensuring Artistic ExcellencePrioritizing artistic excellence will be a mandate for the General Director, accomplished through leadership of a skilled artistic team. The General Director will invest time and energy in laying out a vital and exciting programming path that builds upon the company's history of presenting both standard repertoire and adventurous new work. The General Director will ensure that programming and education are uniquely linked, particularly around deepening the experience for Opera Colorado's Artists in Residence program.
• Community Connections and Brand ExpansionThe General Director will create excitement for Opera Colorado and find ways to create buzz about all of the company's work with current and yet-to-be discovered audiences. With great heart and a winning public persona, the General Director will be the lead ambassador for the organization in all public forums.The Opera Colorado Search Committee is also interested in the following qualities and traits in potential candidates:

• A desire to live and work in the Denver community, combined with a capacity for constant learning and exploration within the region.COMPENSATION AND START DATEThe annual salary range for the General Director role at Opera Colorado begins at $180,000 and includes a benefits package that is comparable to organizations of a similar size and scope of operations.
